A police spokesman confirmed this afternoon that terror was being considered as motivation after a man in a black Honda targeted pedestrians, one man was hit whilst others were aimed for before being stopped by an off-duty police officer.
He said: “Anytime someone is trying to run people over we got to look at that angle and see what the investigation leads us.”
“Police were alerted … to a reckless driver driving southbound on Broad Street towards Bigler. This driver was apparently attempting to run people over”
The 30-year-old attack driver who was taken to hospital in an “extremely critical condition” was declared dead around two hours after arrival.
The police spokesman also said while only one person had been hit by the car, “multiple people” had been targeted.
It is also revealed that Another driver had blocked the path of the suspect’s car, and the off-duty detective
approached and struggled with him.
The name of the driver who was shot has not been released. He was driving a black Honda with Maryland plates and
was from Arlington, Virginia. The off duty officer suffered minor injuries and has been treated and released from the
The struggle between the suspect and the officer was caught on video, Commissioner Richard Ross said during a
news conference. However, he said he was concerned about the number of shots the detective fired.
The entire incident remains under investigation.
