How many of us remember school exams and how the teacher was always silent during the test. Today I was being reminded of this simple yet significant action as I was drawn to meditate on God’s word in the story of Jesus and the disciples on the Boat.

The disciples were shaken during that storm even after knowing that Jesus was with them in that boat. His presence alone should have been enough assurance of security but yet they trembled. They chose fear and a spirit of timid, instead of following the example of Jesus who simply just slept, rest and trusted the process.

It is so easy to over-react during a process and miss what God is saying or doing in that journey, because we are not very good at trusting the process. When we read chapter 4 of Mark;

Wind and Wave Obey Jesus

35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”

Jesus gave instructions to his disciples to go to the other side (liken this to instructions to cross over to purpose) But on their way to the other side (destiny and purpose), they encounter a storm, even with Jesus physically in the boat, the disciples were still afraid; People who daily walked with Christ feared (o yea of little faith). I know life can present some scary moments/seasons and some of you may feel like God is asleep in your situation, but He expects you to trust Him.

39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”[d]41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

The thing that gets me every time i read this story of the bible is the fact that just like in school the teacher was present yet the disciples were not disciplined enough to have faith in the process. Even after walking with this man called teacher, they allowed their earthly mindset to take over their Kingdom perspective and lose sight of all they had been learning through Christ. You may be in a place or season where it feels like you have to hide, a place where storms are raging; but God is saying Be still and rest in me.

The thing about storms is that they come and go but one thing they never do is last forever. Never look at that storm as being bigger than our God because there’s always a brighter day. Learn to trust the process and not to listen to the enemies voice because it will cripple your faith.
