Today I was asked one of the most interesting questions ever and it went; “How could God have such an unrealistic expectation of us by saying ‘Fear Not’? the conversation went a little more like this; “It’s easy for Him to say. After all, He is God.”
I absolutely love such questions or rather dialogue exchanges. Okay, so I understand that we are living in a crazy world where we are daily facing opposition, persecution, rejection, not to mention the everyday issues of life. So, who in their right mind wouldn’t be afraid?
I would like to tackle this conversation from the scripture in Isaiah 41:10;
fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
I always liken the sentiment of this scripture to that of Isaiah 59:19 especially the second part which reads;
When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.
Many people go about in life after they have become born again believing that all their problems and troubles have vanished, yet in this scripture it is telling us the enemy will come, however he will not be victorious over us because the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.
Now, when you go back to Isaiah 41:10 and it says “Fear not”; It does not mean that you are not entitled to be afraid. However, what it is saying is that in the midst of that storm and chaos, though it may seem scary and cause you to be shaken, don’t worry I have got you. Its an assurance that no matter what we go through and no matter how dark it may seem, God will be with us through all that we have to go through therefore we have nothing to fear.
Another thing I love about Isaiah 41:10 is that the Lord never makes a promise He can’t keep. He commands us to neither fear nor be dismayed for two reasons:
- He is with us.
- He is our God.
Never ever let anyone condemn you for feeling a little afraid sometimes. I have heard it all in my journey as a Christian from;
“If you show people that you are fearful then they will question your maturity” to “It’s not Christian like to be afraid: or but you’re a PK”.
Fear, Discouragement and Disappointment etc….. are normal feelings/emotions that everyone experiences in life at one point or another. However the only difference is how you handle that fear, disappointment or discouragement. Do you let it get the best of you or do you call it subject under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
First and foremost always remember the Lord is with us and we need not to fear. His presence guarantees us the strength to endure every trial because we are never without help. Secondly and finally, God upholds us with His mighty power. When our own strength is weak, He reaches down with His powerful right hand and lifts us.
Isaiah 43:2 New King James Version
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
Remember today and during your trials that you have a mighty God who is with you!
