Luke 9:57 -62

The Cost of Following Jesus

57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”

58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

59 He said to another man, “Follow me.”

But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”

62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

When we make a decision to say goodbye to the former things that did not make us right with God, that is the time that many distractions come in and try to distract us. Many negative  opportunities present themselves to try and cause you to question your faith. But, the thing about challenges is that they help us grow and therefore should not become a thing that causes us to worry or grow weary.

Never allow anything and anyone to get in the way of your walk with Christ. When you surrender to the call, fully give yourself. We already live in a dangerous age, where many of us are compromising our walk with Christ for a pay cheque. I get great demands placed on us such as bills, but do we trust the money more than we trust in God’s ability?

In this dark age we ought to be a light that shines and stands out. It is time to make our walk with Christ a high priority and not look back.

I love verse 62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

We should never allow ourselves to be deemed unfit for the kingdom. Let us all forge ahead and follow through with that which is required of us in this call.

God bless you all
