Premier Gospel Awards 2018 Review

News

Hosted by Premier Gospel presenters Lady T and Theo Manderson, the most anticipated night on the UK Gospel Music Calendar landed with a bang. April 14, 2018 saw the third edition of the ‘Premier Gospel Awards’ organised by the UK’s leading Gospel Music Radio station, show up and show out. The high-profile event celebrated and highlighted the best of British Gospel, from the Music to those behind it.

Prior to the awards, Muyiwa Olarewaju, Premier Gospel Station Director said to astepfwd:

“Over the years we have seen artists who we’ve championed before anyone knew them go on to become MOBO award winners and BBC Gospel Choir of the Year finalists. As the only dedicated Gospel music awards in the UK, Premier Gospel is delighted that we get the opportunity to celebrate both national and international talent, and bring artists from grassroots to the attention of mainstream”.

Boy, was he right. On the night we saw Premier Gospel Awards Introducing SHEKINA an up and coming gospel girl group that absolutely smashed it with a performance of Tasha Cobbs “In the Name of our God” and the likes of new comers such as Called Out Music, literally solidify that the UK gospel scene is underestimated, though strong enough to contend across international borders. We saw a powerful performance from Faith Child and Becca Folkes.

Triple O, Charles Dada, Sarah Teibo, IDMC, Noel Robinson and Travis Green were among those who took away gongs on the night and rightly so. Guest appearances from the likes of Sammie Okposo, Guvna B, Les Moir, Rachel Kerr, Adaeze Chiwoko (Unbound PR Agency), Bazil Meade, B Positive Choir Founder and our very own founder of Imachristianandimproud.com Micah Dandaula.

The highlight of the night was the closing act, Bazil Meade and London Community Gospel Choir. MY oh my, were they absolutely amazing. There are not enough words that can do justice to describe what a glorious night it was. If you have never heard London Community Gospel Choir, I implore you to check them out.

The UK gospel scene is hardly celebrated and therefore it is such a blessing to have a platform like Premier Gospel see the need to celebrate those young and old advancing the kingdom through the arts. If you missed out this year, I encourage you all to set reminders for next year, because this is not an event to be missed.
