There are many things that keeping many coming to the Church and also as many reasons that keep people away. Its amazing how church families can become clique-like without realising the effects it can have on the church especially when we receive visitors; which is more likely than not. We can sometimes be so attached to our cliques and not notice the new people in our midst as it happened to our reader Rachel.
“No one greeted us or saw us to our seats and i understand that church can be busy and hectic, its just that it would have been nice for someone to talk to our family after the service at least just to make us feel welcomed.
There are some things we can be mindful of in church to avoid such mistakes happening, here are 3 but feel free to share more.
PLEASE DON’T IGNORE ME!
Remember visitors are not usual attendee’s therefore never assume they know there way around this new environment: Greet them, show them to their seat and make them feel at home. Yes this is important!
During the service try and read the situation and try to remember to offer help. Visitors do not know the protocol of this new environment a little gentle guidance goes a long way.
There is nothing more amazing than someone taking interest in you. Don’t be nosy but ask enough, Name, where they’re from but also actively listen as it will go a long way. Make people feel loved as people come with all sorts of troubles and the church is where they come to find healing.
There are so many things we could go through, however I would like to extend this post over to you and please feel free to share your thoughts. Always be mindful that new visitors if attending for the first time may want to sit together as a family, therefore never force them to be separated as it can be uncomfortable.
God bless you and feel free to share your thoughts and also with others.
